Designers like Tracey Reese, Nicole Miller and DVF came to my mind, when I saw the fabulous FungWear collection at the Nolcha Fashion Show, during NY Fashion Week. I was compelled to learn more about the amazing designer Koren Benbow-Fung and her beautiful collection.
DV: When did you start Fungwear and what was your inspiration?
Koren: My husband and I launched FungWear in 2008, while I was on maternity leave with my first child. That was really the first time in my adult life that I was able to slow down and completely shift my focus from an advertising career to my new baby and deep-rooted love for fashion and design. Our inspiration for every collection is edgy and urban inspired pieces. The FungWear brand has evolved from a T-shirt Collection into a Full Women’s RTW Line filled with fabulous knitwear, dresses, tops, bottoms, and outerwear.
DV: What do you find most challenging when designing your collection?
Koren: The most challenging part for me is trying to keep each collection limited to just 20 styles. When I am planning a new season, I typically create over 40 different designs and when I get closer to actually creating the pieces I have to scale back. Ugh, I want everything!!!
DV: Who are some of the designers that inspire your design process?
Koren: My Fab Five are Chanel, Diane Von Furstenberg, Rachel Roy, Preen, and D&G. I also love Custo Barcelona, Givenchy and Lanvin.
DV: Where do you see your collection in the next five years?
Koren: Everywhere!!! In boutiques / stores through out the US and Abroad.

Koren: You can purchase the current FungWear “Edge” Fall 2011/12 Collection online at www.fungwear.com. We are currently reviewing contracts for the SS2012 Collection to be in stores for next season.
DV: Finally, If you could sum up Fungwear in three words, what would they be and why?
Koren: “Girlie with an Edge” Sorry this is four words, but the best way to sum up the brand. FungWear is made for girlie girls who want to exude a hint of edge!
